For this office and retail scheme, Lacasa’s designers were tasked with achieving 60% coverage of the 6,378 square metre plot in Qatar’s Hilal district. Achieving a total built up area of 23,500 square metres, the design responds to the site’s urban fabric with a dynamic form, comprising fragmented restaurant and retail masses at ground level, connected by a continuous office mass above.
Breaks in the massing enabled the creation of outdoor terraces between the retail units while canopies provide shade. The retail zone was treated as an outdoor area to encourage interactivity, while leaving enough space to produce a comfortable and dynamic environment. The canopies’ mashrabiya-style decoration, with a brown wood colour and texture, lend an Arabic flavour to the project
